Watching generational rivalries on social media is fun, especially when generations try to one-up each other with their experiences. Remnants of the Greatest Generation and we Baby Boomers smile as the whipper-snappers debate who’s the toughest, who grew up the hardest, whose youthful experiences were best while we know to whom that truly applies.
You are no longer wearing a mask when in public; few of us are. And when you notice someone who is wearing a mask, assuming it registers at all, it is to wonder why. After all, we defeated COVID-19 long ago, right?
Hollywood’s big night is Sunday with the 96 th Academy Awards ceremony, honoring the year’s best movies, performers, and all the people and things that go into making movies. There’s another movie-related 96 th anniversary Sunday with roots right here in our own Norfork.
Well, we’ve done it again. We’ve made it through what I hope to be the worst of the winter weather and will soon be able to enjoy the warm sunshine and light, spring breezes against my face, lightly perfumed by the many magnolias, jasmines and other fragrant flowers that will soon be rising from the cold isolation of winter’s doldrums.
Not terribly long ago — less than a year, actually — four friends of a half-century met for dinner. One couple had been, still are, active in Democratic Party affairs (and thus were reliable news sources) for at least that long. The table talk was of kids and grandkids, Little League practices, planned vacations and the price of airfares, the usual stuff. And, naturally, politics.
